Igualada, Barcelona - SPAIN
In 2015 the residential market in Spain was still under the economic meltdown but despite the pessimist forecast there was a powerful latent demand for new residences by a client profile with enough purchasing power. So, we started assessing different options as usual, and teaming with a local real estate agency, we decided to assume the risk of developing a proposal in this residential plot, located in a nice area in Igualada, a town of 40.000 people and 30 minutes far from Barcelona by car.
The buildable area was intended for a small apartment building, but the demand for terrace houses was very strong, and 80% were sold before construction works started. All five owners had the opportunity to change partitions and finishes during the process.
The houses are designed in white & dark-grey volumes moving in and out to achieve the maximum sun light for main spaces and the front gardens. Ground floors are completely opened with floor-to-top windows, and the access for vehicles is on the backside.
